Shame

“Invasive, Pervasive, Deceiving, “Shame” lurks behind perfectionism, sometimes hidden as pride or hedonistic freedom.

“Shame” is a Dans Theatre performance that interrogates the violence towards queer cis male bodies within a heteronormative society. Set in a locker room it unfolds strategies of integration and segregation while questioning the presence of underlying shame. It follows five strangers as they enter the public locker room and are brought face to face acceptance of themselves and others, "Shame" makes use of collage technique that draws to queerness and becomes a vehicle to transform the bodies and the space.

Inspired by research from Matthew Todd’s “Straight Jacket” the piece navigates the tension between oppression and sexual liberation exposing feeling of unease, fear and desire in a time when gay men can be – but are they really? – ‘loud and proud’.”
